Be the change you want to see

A friend always says that we're luck to live at this moment in history where a small idea can bring in a sea change. I totally agree with his thought and also feel it is much easier now to know things and most importantly touch and shape a fellow-being's life. I'm truly thankful for many many things that I've in life and the list is quite long:

* I've a family who support me for everything that I do.
* I've friends who motivate, encourage and show me a direction when I'm lost.

But most importantly

* I've had access to good education.
* I've access to drinking water.
* I've a nice roofed house for shelter.
* Never have to think about hunger. I've access to food.
* I've access to any kind of clothes that I want to wear.

I don't know what it feels like to be homeless, to be hungry, to starve without food, to hug a dead body for warmth, to eat the dead animals due to hunger, to make match sticks for money, to polish boots for a penny, to long to go to school, to long to be educated, to sell the body and feelings to just live a life, to stand outside a government hospital for 10 hours to just get a crocin for fever and to see the future go blank because the crops failed.

I'm also thankful because I've the power to be the change I want to see in the world. I work on a few social projects and most my friends feel that I'm stressing myself with too many things. But, I just want to tell them that I'm happy when

* I teach kids - I'm what I am because I had an access to good education and I strongly feel education to masses can be one of the most important solutions to most of the problems that India faces today.

* I see the crescent on her face when she knows she can earn - I work on a project to train unwed mothers and trafficked girls on clay modelling and pottery - I have a loving family and amazing friends. These girls need the confidence, courage and skill to face the world that got them the title 'unwed mother'.

* I see the pride on his face when he knows he can employ people - I work on a project to make the disabled people self-employed - They've to challenge the world which doubts their ability that 'if you're looking for a job, you can join my company' with pride. The number of disabled people of India who are employed is still a minuscule number compared to other developed nations.

* I see a hope in his eyes as he feels he can change his village - I work on a project to bridge rural entrepreneurs with the resources available to the urban entrepreneurs. - I feel India can truly see a change only with enterprise-led development in rural areas too.

I'm sure most of us want to contribute and give it back to the society. But a few of us just think it could be difficult in our busy lives. I just want to tell you that just a phone call or a small idea can also make a difference. I just want all my friends and family to experience and feel that nothing is more joyful than the joy of giving and being the change that you want to see.
